Battle for the Promised Land 3/4

WATCH this video and gather these supplies! Judge Postcard (1 Per Child), 12 Judge Pictures, and Tape

Parent Note: For this activity, tape one Judge Picture to the back of each child. It’s ok to repeat judges.

ACTIVITY

SAY: We are going to spend some time learning the Judges from the Bible. (Give 1 Judge Postcard to each child.) There were 12 judges. Let’s say their names together. (Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Tola, Jair, Jephthah, Ibzan, Elon, Abdon, and Samson) Let’s play a game! I will tape a picture of a Judge on your back. Your job is to guess which Judge is on your back. When I say, “Go,” walk around the room, holding the Judge postcard asking each other for clues. Someone else can look at your book, and then you can ask that person a question. You can ask questions like “Am I a boy or a girl?” “Does my name start with a “T?”

“Am I wearing a green shirt?” If you are giving a clue, your answers can only be “Yes” or “No.” Once you think you have it figured out go to your leader and tell them who you think you are.:

WATCH this video and gather these supplies: 1 Cycle of Apostasy Game Board, 1

Set Cycle of Apostasy Game Cards, 1 Die, and 2 Coins (for Game Pieces)

SAY: We are going to review what we know about the book of Judges by playing a game

called The Cycle of Apostasy. I will divide you into two teams. The first team to move around

the entire cycle of apostasy game board wins! Roll the die and move your game piece. I will

then ask your team a question. We will take turns until we have a winner!

WATCH this video:

Parent Note: This activity is a set of review questions that will appear on the video. Take time to answer and discuss each question with your small group. At the end of this time, take prayer requests and lead a time of prayer with your group.

ACTIVITY

SAY: Let’s play Bible What’s It? I will divide you into 2 teams. You can work with your team to answer each question. The team who answers the most questions correctly, wins!

SAY: Great job answering the questions! I’m wondering something: Why do you think the people got stuck in the cycle of apostasy? What would you have done? Why do you think God let the people get stuck in the cycle?

SAY: The Bible says that in those days everyone did what was right in their own eyes. Can you think of a time when you did what was right in your eyes?

SAY: Let’s pray together. What would you like to pray for this week?

ASK the children to share their prayer requests.

PRAY with your children.

A few discussion questions for the week:

• What do you think about the book of Judges?

• How many Judges were there in the Bible? (12)

• Can you remember the names of the Judges? (Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Tola, Jair, Jephthah, Ibzan, Elon, Abdon, and Samson)

• Which Judge did you tape on your back during the game?

• What is the cycle of Apostasy?

1. Forget about God and worship fake gods

2. God would take away his protection

3. In misery the children of God would call out to Him for help

4. God would raise up a Judge filled with his spirit

5. The Judge would drive out the enemy

6. The Israelites would celebrate how God had saved them

BIG question: What does Apostasy mean?
